The first season starts out with Tanjiro and his family. Tanjiro has a keen sense of smell and he usually helps around the village and his family. Though one day when he comes back from the village, he find his family dead and brutally murdered. He looks around the house to see if anyone is still alive. Sadly, none of his family lived except for his sister named Nezuko. She was injured, but she was still alive and breathing. So Tanjiro takes Nezuko to see if anyone can help his sister. While Tanjiro was taking his sister down the mountain his sister started acting weird, as if she was changing. All of a sudden Nezuko pounced and the only intention was to eat humans and to suck there blood so when she saw her brother she only had the intention to kill him, but once he blocked her, she started to realize that she was trying to kill her own brother. She started crying she was trying to comprehend what she was doing trying to kill her own brother. Then out of nowhere a hashira came and attempted to kill Nezuko. Tanjiro watched the whole fight and tried to convince the hashira that Nezuko meant no harm. Then Nezuko ran toward Tanjiro trying to protect him him from the hashira, then the hashira realized Nezuko meant no harm. So he just made her pass out and told Tanjiro that he will give her a chance but that he has to be careful, because not everyone will accept her, and to protect her until he can change her back to a human.
Throughout the rest of the season Tanjiro meets new people that help him out throughout out his journey, he fights demons, has an encounter with the person that transformed his sister into a demon, and meets the hashiras, which most of them are against the idea that his sister should live due to her being a demon.
